• Using the LDH precursor, CuO/Cu1.5Mn1.5O4 heterojunction was prepared by temperature-controlled sintering. • CuMn-MMO-400 exhibits excellent activity and stability across a wide temperature range. • CO oxidation on CuMn-MMO-400 follows the MvK mechanism: CuO adsorbs CO, and Cu1.5Mn1.5O4 supplies lattice oxygen. • RDF, theoretical calculations and in-situ characterization have confirmed this process (MvK).
