• A novel multilayer compression-torsion metamaterial is proposed. • Dynamic behavior is characterized using SHPB and strain rosette methods. • Key structural parameters influencing the dynamic response are identified. • Compression-Torsion Coupling (CTC) effect is evaluated under impact loading. • Layer-wise deformation under dynamic loading weakens the CTC effect.
