Abstract

Abstract

En 中文
Wireless sensor network (WSN) is a communication system consisting of a large number of wireless nodes which are powered up by small battery and deployed in inaccessible locations. Network capacity is an important specification for WSN. Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) is a MAC protocol for WSN. It divides the time frame into time-slots and assigns them to the nodes in the network. Each node works in its own time-slot, so as to realize the goal that multiple nodes share the same channel without collision. Most of the existing TDMA scheduling algorithm try to find optional way to assign the number of time-slot, but rarely discuss the optional packet length for every time-slot. Usually, it is more reliable to transmit shorter packet, but it will be inefficient when the time-slot is too short. This paper proposes a dynamic time-slot allocation algorithm (ED-TDMA) focusing on maximizing network capacity. The proposed algorithm adjusts the time-slot length according to the bit error rate (BER) of the system. The simulation results show that when the BER is 4 parts per thousand, the network capacity is 3 times that of static TDNIA. The worst the communication environment, the better results achieved by the proposed algorithm.
