• Selective translation of oncoproteins is an essential hallmark of cancers, facilitating rapid adaptation to various oncogenic cues and hostile insults. • Malignant cells reprogram translation by hijacking RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) to recognize specific cis-regulatory elements, orchestrating protein programs that drive tumorigenesis. • RNA-binding protein-mediated selective translation acts as a central regulatory hub that orchestrates core cancer hallmarks, including tumor growth, immune evasion, and therapy resistance. • Targeting selective translation represents a promising strategy for anti-cancer therapeutics.
