Their findings 36 emphasize the important role of virtual mirrors and embodiment in enhancing users' sense of 37 presence and suggest these mechanisms may contribute to improvements in self-38 esteem changes. 39These studies suggest that the psychological efficacy of VR is not merely ascribable to its realism; 40 but rather to the creation of meaningful loops between the body; the self; other people; and the 41 environment. expressive interaction in VR and mixed reality; emphasizing embodied interaction; navigable creative 83 spaces; constrained freedom; and collaborative world-building as key principles for designing 84 immersive systems that enhance human creativity and expression. 85Taken together; these contributions advance the insufficient role through universal models of 86 interaction alone; but require increasingly adaptive; personalized; and human-centered approaches 87 capable of accounting for interindividual differences and contextual variability. 88 Summing up; this Research Topic highlights the complex; multidimensional nature of 89 technologically mediated human experience and the urgent need for integrative frameworks 90 encompassing neuroscience; psychology; embodied cognition; and human-computer interaction 91 research (Figure 1). Future developments in the field will likely benefit from multimodal and 92 longitudinal approaches combining neurophysiological measures; behavioral indices; and first-person 93 subjective reports (preferably; continuous rather than pre-post punctual evaluations) within 94 ecologically valid immersive paradigms. As immersive technologies continue to evolve; their 95 significance will depend not only on increasing realism and interactivity but also on our ability to 96 understand how these systems actively shape perception; cognition; emotion; and the embodied sense 97 of self (Slater and Sanchez-Vives; 2016). Ultimately; the challenge is not simply about technology 98itself; but about understanding the human being within increasingly mediated realities 99
