Abstract

There have been some changes made to the journal's Editorial Board since our last issue in June. First of all, Josep Guerrero has stepped down from the Editorial Board. We also welcomed two new Senior Editors recently. Moreover, approximately one year ago, we implemented a pilot group of six Senior Associate Editors dedicated to verifying the scope of submitted papers. The pilot was indeed a success. As such, we have decided to make it an ongoing practice; the inaugural members are introduced in this issue and on the journal's website. In addition, we regularly recruit qualified Associate Editors for the journal to step in once an appointed editor's term ends or submissions in certain areas increase. Since last year the size of the editorial board has almost doubled. This growth reflects the systems community's enhanced interest in disseminating research results in the IEEE SYSTEMS JOURNAL. Additional good news is that the Systems Council has approved an increase in the number of pages for the journal in order to address its growing popularity and to partially reduce the current backlog. We will, therefore, also be considering special issues for the journal once again. This issue, as with our previous issues, has exciting papers on the various system of systems topics, including the practical aspects of microgrids (e.g., in energy storage systems and capacity optimization), IoT (e.g., in e-health and edge cameras), and cloud-edge computing (e.g., in space-air-ground integrated networks and 5G networks). You can find all of these emerging technologies under a complex system of systems configuration. Finally, in this issue, you will also find seven survey papers with various focuses.
