• The role of calcium is vital for many systems. • However, the impact of elevated serum calcium levels on immune system remains unclear. • Given that hypercalcemia is a serious complication of NSCLC, we performed a comparative study to explore the effects of different calcium levels on the immune system. • In this study, the levels of 14 cytokines and percentage distribution of lymphocytes in peripheral blood were measured. • Compared with patients with normocalcemia, statistically significantly higher levels of certain cytokines were observed, including IL-2, IL-4, IL-10, IL-17A, IL-17F and TNF-β, in those with hypercalcemia. • It suggested that elevated serum calcium may contribute to the formation of an impressive microenvironment partially through these cytokines.
