• We propose a Convolution-based Discriminative Sparse Appearance (CDSA) model. • Our CDSA model exploits hierarchical structure features and discriminative features. • Our CDSA model exhibits strong effectiveness in handling external interferences. • Our CDSA-based tracker performs favorably against several state-of-the-art trackers.
