Abstract

• A double-loop reliability-based design optimization formulation is proposed. • Cost is minimized for an allowable probability of failure, given a hazardous event. • Dynamic linear systems subjected to filtered white-noise loading are considered. • RMS structural responses are efficiently calculated using Lyapunov equations. • Both inner and outer optimizations are efficiently solved via first-order algorithms.
