By simultaneously exploiting the time-domain and space-domain resources of the echoes from multiple channels in the azimuth direction, multichannel radar can achieve ambiguity-free forward-looking imaging. However, the along-flight path area suffers from poor imaging performance due to small Doppler variation. Although superresolution can enhance imaging performance, they always face the problem of azimuthal spatial variation of the point spread function (PSF) and heavy computational burden caused by a large-scale echo matrix. To address these issues, an efficient spatio-temporal imaging scheme is proposed in this article. First, according to the azimuth-variant law of the PSF, the echoes from the along-track region and the off-track region are separated by making use of the Doppler differences in different regions. Then, the spatio-temporal steering matrices for different echoes are constructed, and the imaging is achieved by using the superresolution and the spatio-temporal beamforming processing, respectively. Finally, the two results are combined to obtain the final imaging result. Simulations and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme significantly reduces computational burden and indirectly overcomes the problem of spatial variation of PSFs, thus achieving better superresolution performance.
