• Pd-decorated CAU-1 serves as an effective hybrid nanofiller for hydrogen separation. • Pd encapsulation in CAU-1 creates catalytic-sieving synergy for hydrogen selectivity. • Pd enhances hydrogen adsorption, dissociation, diffusion and overall sieving control. • Optimal Pd loading ensures proper encapsulation and prevents particle agglomeration. • PMMA/CAU-Pd0.5 exhibits enhanced H2/CO2 selectivity and long-term membrane stability.
