The Vector Fitting (VF) technique has become a mature rational approximation tool. This paper proposes two enhancements that increase the VF computational efficiency, resulting in reduced CPU time while maintaining a desired precision of the approximation. The first enhancement consists of a stopping criterion to automatically interrupt the VF iterative process when the fitting error does not vary significantly. The second one is based on frequency partition and order reduction of the rational model. The computational gain by the proposed enhancements is verified via fitting of a multi-input multi-output test system of considerable complexity that includes transmission lines modelled as distributed-parameter lines.
