• Enzyme-MOF-electrode architecture gives 2250-fold PFOA defluorination rate gain. • Over 95% PFOA removal sustained across 2500 h of continuous operation. • 98.7% of organic fluorine mineralised; 94 to 97% recovered as high-purity LaF3. • Operates at 1.17 kWh m−3 and $1.18 m-3, far below destructive alternatives.
