• Ethyl iodobenzoates enable efficient enrichment of fine molybdenite. • E3IB shows the strongest collecting ability among the tested collectors. • E2IB and E3IB chemisorb on edge planes via O–Mo and I–Mo coordination. • Iodine substitution position significantly affects flotation enrichment and recovery. • Synergistic edge–basal plane regulation improves fine molybdenite enrichment.
