Abstract

• Rigid trucks and tractor-trailers need batteries of 360 and 779 kWh, respectively, for daily routes. • Rigid buses fulfil daily activity with 449 kWh batteries, but charging patterns can affect sizing. • Aerodynamics drives truck efficiency; gearbox/battery density are key for city buses. • EU R&I projects showed potential for 18%–25% energy savings and 69%–84% range gains. • Short-haul electrification is viable by 2030; long-haul needs grid innovations.
