To evaluate the effectiveness of teaching rounds and student satisfaction with a flipped classroom model in nursing internships. This was a comparative before-and-after study conducted in a single hepatobiliary department. Final-year BSN nursing interns who rotated through the department between March 2021 and March 2024 were included. Following a departmental curriculum reform in September 2022, interns were assigned to two groups: the conventional group received traditional instructor-led teaching rounds, and the flipped classroom group received peer-led teaching rounds with online preparatory materials. Both groups completed theoretical and practical skill examinations and a satisfaction survey covering six domains, including learning atmosphere, teaching arrangements, teaching methods, standardization of procedures, instructional quality, and teaching effectiveness. A total of 102 nursing interns were involved, with 52 in the conventional group and 50 in the flipped classroom group. Both groups exhibited similar demographics in terms of age and gender distribution. The flipped classroom group reported significantly higher satisfaction across various evaluative categories including learning atmosphere, teaching methods, instructional quality, and teaching effectiveness (all p < 0.001). However, no significant differences were noted in teaching arrangements and standardization of procedures (p = 0.541 and p = 0.303, respectively). Furthermore, the flipped classroom group achieved higher scores in both theoretical quizzes and skill examinations (both p < 0.001). Our study found that nursing interns in the peer-led flipped classroom model reported higher satisfaction and achieved higher examination scores compared to those in the traditional teaching rounds group within a single-center educational setting. These findings support the potential integration of flipped classroom methodologies within nursing education frameworks to foster a more engaging and effective learning environment. Not applicable.
