This paper studies the design of event-triggered (ET) H ∞ $$ {H}_{\infty } $$ state observer for switched linear systems subject to exogenous disturbances. In contrast to most existing results, the proposed approach does not require that all the modes of the switched systems are stable. First, for the purpose of reducing resource consumption and waste, the observer is designed to acquire the output information of the system solely at ET instants. Then, we build the sampled observation error system and analyze its exponential stability and H ∞ $$ {H}_{\infty } $$ performance by employing the piecewise Lyapunov function method. Finally, through two examples, we demonstrate the effectiveness and advantages of the proposed approach.
