Abstract
En 中文
• Wheat cultivars exhibit either active or tolerant light competition strategies. • Tolerant cultivars show higher yield and harvest index at high densities. • Active shade-avoidance responses increase individual fitness but reduce population yield. • Recent breeding for yield has unconsciously selected for a tolerance strategy with reduced morphological plasticity. • Selecting for passive light responses can further increase wheat yield.
