An experimental porous asphalt mixture incorporating a conventional asphalt binder and residual fibres has been designed to improve the performance of a reference asphalt and, at the same time, to achieve a performance comparable to that of a control asphalt made with a polymer modified binder and without fibres. A large-scale mechanical evaluation has been carried out on a circular road simulator. Then, the feasibility of recycling the experimental mixture has been studied. In addition, a life cycle analysis has been developed in environmental and economic terms. Regarding the results, the experimental mixture showed overall performance comparable to that of the control mixture in the circular road simulator under virgin conditions. While under aged conditions, it exhibited comparable results in kurtosis and skewness, but with statistically significant differences in the mean profile depth. It is important to note that, in both conditions, the experimental mixture showed greater resistance to detachment than the reference. Then, regarding recyclability, replacing 50% of the virgin material for recycled material improves the stiffness and indirect tensile strength. However, it reduces cohesion under humid conditions. Finally, in terms of LCA, the experimental mixture shows better results than the reference and comparable performance to the control mixture.
