• SP-HVOF is demonstrated as a solution-based route for lithium-containing oxide coatings. • SP-HVOF enables scalable fabrication of thin LiCoO₂ cathode coatings directly from liquid precursors. • Stand-off distance and flame stoichiometry govern coating microstructure and deposition efficiency. • Post-annealing at 600–700 °C converts intermediates into highly crystalline, phase-pure LiCoO₂. • Coatings show stable cycling and reduced charge-transfer resistance during operation.
