• A simple carbonization–selenization strategy was used to make Fe3O4/Fe3Se4/NC. • Fe3O4/Fe3Se4 heterojunctions induce built–in electric fields for fast Na+ kinetics. • N–doped carbon stabilizes heterojunctions and accommodates volume variation. • The resultant Fe3O4/Fe3Se4/NC anode shows superior sodium storage property.
