• Energy-efficient diffusion dialysis is used to separate H+ and RE3+ ions. • High-performance porous AEMs are fabricated via one-step modification. • The optimal AEM (PPSF-3) yields a UH+ of 40.4 × 10−3 m h−1 and a H+/RE3+ selectivity of 3231.9 • The PPSF-3 AEM maintains stable DD performance for of H+/RE3+ separation. • The PPSF-3 AEM exhibits an impressive antifouling performance.
