• Corrosion significantly reduces fatigue life of AM 18Ni300 maraging steel. • Surface defects (pits, microcracks) accelerate crack initiation and propagation. • Build orientation strongly influences corrosion–fatigue interaction. • Maximum degradation observed at intermediate build angles (30°–60°) • Corrosion increases hardness but decreases fatigue performance. • Surface integrity dominates over bulk mechanical strengthening effects. • ANOVA confirms stress as primary factor, with corrosion as key secondary driver.
