• SrCo1-xFexO3 perovskites synthesized for bifunctional water splitting. • Fe substitution tunes crystal structure from cubic to tetragonal phase. • Mixed Co/Fe valence states enhance charge transfer and redox activity. • SCF0.6 better HER performance (379 mV @ 10 mA cm−2; 58.62 mV dec−1). • SCF0.4 better OER activity (400 mV @ 10 mA cm−2; 58.62 mV dec−1).
