Abstract

Despite the many known benefits of childbirth preparation classes, studies comparing the effectiveness of face-to-face and online childbirth education are limited. This research study aimed to evaluate the fear of childbirth, birth beliefs, and mode of birth preferences in pregnant women who participated in face-to-face and online childbirth preparation classes. This quasi-experimental study included 58 pregnant women. Pregnant women were assigned to two intervention groups: face-to-face and online childbirth preparation classes. Data for the study were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Wijma Birth Expectancy/Experience Scale A Version, and the Birth Beliefs Scale. Data were collected twice: before (pre-test) and one month after (post-test) the childbirth preparation training. There were no differences between the pre-test in fear of childbirth (p = 0.636), birth beliefs- natural and medical processes (p = 0.786, p = 0.583), and mode of birth preferences (p = 1.000) among pregnant women in the face-to-face and online groups. Furthermore, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of fear of childbirth (p = 0.274), birth beliefs- natural and medical processes (p = 0.312, p = 0.600), and mode of birth preferences over time (p = 0.177). No statistically significant differences were observed between the groups in fear of childbirth, birth beliefs and mode of birth preferences over time. The study was registered with ClinicalTrials.gov (registration number: NCT07345468) and retrospectively registered on 24.09.2025.
