• Polymers trigger droplet filamentation in electro-induced non-coalescence. • Filament-induced Joule heat and vaporization trigger electric field collapse. • Higher Ca promotes rupture while polymers enhance filament stability. • Increased Oh inhibits filaments by slowing liquid bridge expansion.
