Abstract

• A We review optimal design of experiments to detect presence of hormesis estimate the threshold and newly formulate criteria for assessing amount or degree of hormesis present. • Use a variety of statistical methods to estimate the area under the curve indicative of the amount or degree of hormesis present. • Methods are valid for experiments with small or large sample sizes, and when there are one or more objectives in the study. • Computer codes written in R software are available for free download to compute the area under the curve after the user inputs nominal values for the parameters in the selected nonlinear model and experiment setup.
