• Passive EV integration increases electricity infrastructure needs and system costs. • 5620 substations are analysed for one or two flexible EV uptake per household. • Flexible EV charging reduces transformer upgrades by over 14 percentage points. • Cost deferrals from flexibility reach £59.8 million under two EV uptake scenarios. • Tariff model enhances equity and supports location-specific infrastructure planning.
