Abstract

• Frasnian-Famennian boundary (FFB) successions deposited in different environmental settings from South China were constrained by multiple stratigraphic approaches. • FFB successions of different settings cover three third-order sequences (Sfr0, Sfr and Sfa), two principal positive carbon isotope excursions (CIE) and two episodes of mass extinction. • The onset of the first CIE coincides with and first faunal kill line, marking the base of late highstand systems tract of Sfr0. • The onset of the second CIE coincides with the final extinction line and FFB, and is fixed at the mid-upper level of the basal cycle set of Sfa.
