• Cellulose monoliths integrated with Ag–PDA–Pd nano-architectures were developed. • Rapid iodine adsorption was enabled by PDA-functionalized Ag nanowires. • Efficient catalytic reduction of Cr(VI) was enabled by Ag/Pd nanostructures. • Cellulose and polydopamine enabled green and scalable catalyst synthesis. • Continuous-flow reactor demonstrated simultaneous iodine capture and Cr(VI) removal.
