• Expressive suppression was linked to all rumination measures in adolescents with MDD. • FC patterns involved prefrontal, insular, parietal, temporal, and cingulate regions. • Right mPFC–right PCC and right mPFC–left PCC FC were linked to brooding. • Findings refine neurocognitive models of brooding in adolescent MDD.
