• Wheat genotypes differed in their responses to foliar-applied P-rich dust • IL105 showed increased biomass and P offtake after foliar dust exposure. • P deficiency enhanced leaf-surface metabolite abundance in IL105. • Metabolite profiles better match dust responses than epidermal traits. • Wild-emmer introgressions suggest candidate loci for future validation.
