• Using GBD2021 data, we assessed the disease burden attributed to high LDL-C levels • Globally, overall mortality and DALY rates trended downward from 1990 to 2021 • Despite these improvements, the absolute numbers have steadily increased • Disease burden and time trends differed across regions, sexes, and age groups • Ischaemic stroke contributed more to the overall burden in older age groups • Middle-SDI regions had a higher disease burden than did other SDI regions
