• Oral fentanyl self-administration behaviors differ by sex in rats • Female rats show greater persistence of responding for fentanyl • No sex differences in fentanyl-induced disruption of responding for food • Fentanyl-induced increases in locomotor activity are more prolonged in females • Results confirm and expand upon prior studies of sex differences in drug effects
