• Air pyrolysis enabled low-loss separation of end-of-life PV cell sheets. • FeCl3-ChCl leaching selectively removed Ag gridlines under mild conditions. • ChCl regulated Fe-Cl coordination and interfacial mass transfer. • Ultrasound achieved rapid Ag removal while preserving Si wafers. • Ag powder with 99.5% purity was recovered by ascorbic acid reduction.
