• Green-synthesized ZnO nanoparticles from Tagetes erecta (L.) leaf extract showed well-defined crystalline structure and morphology. • ZnO nanoparticles exhibited strong, dose-dependent nematicidal activity against Meloidogyne incognita. • The application of ZnO nanoparticles reduced root galling and enhanced growth and physiological traits in tomato plants.
