• Dislocation activities in the USRP-treated α-enhanced TB8 alloy promote the refinement of α and β phases. • Upon refinement of the α lamellae to ∼10 nm, an α→β phase transformation is induced. • Dislocation accumulation and lattice distortion cause a ∼70 nm-thickness amorphous structure. • Prepared heterostructure exhibits enhanced surface microhardness and torsional strength.
