• Hierarchical nano-sized HZSM-5 and HMCM-22 zeolites were synthesized via a dual-template strategy. • Topological structure and acidity differences dominate the distinct catalytic performance in olefin oligomerization. • HMCM-22 shows superior low-temperature activity with >95% conversion of 2-methyl-2-butene and 78% jet fuel selectivity.
