Abstract

Magneto-electro-elastic (MEE) materials exhibit unique multi-energy interconversion, making them promising for engineering applications. Nevertheless, accurately capturing these coupled responses in multiphysics simulations often requires high-dimensional constitutive models with numerous parameters, rendering model development and calibration challenging. By replacing constitutive models with constitutive data, data-driven computational mechanics provides a promising path to circumvent the modeling process. In this work, a high-dimensional data-driven method enhanced by quantum computing is developed for MEE problems. The algorithmic novelty of this work lies in extending data-driven computing to high-dimensional MEE multiphysics problems. The core idea of this method is to directly use constitutive data to conduct the simulation, bypassing the need of material modeling. Specifically, this is achieved by performing a nearest neighbor search between the constitutive data and the data satisfying the conservation law. Meanwhile, to reduce the nearest neighbor search cost in the high-dimensional space, the quantum distance-evaluation routine adopted from existing work is applied, and its numerical performance is investigated on the Qiskit simulator as a feasibility study, rather than as a demonstration of practical quantum utility on real quantum hardware. The validity and performance of the method are demonstrated through several numerical simulations, including a threedimensional multiscale MEE beam. Furthermore, we investigate the effectiveness of nearest neighbor search in such a high-dimensional space, discussing this well-known open problem in the field. This work demonstrates the feasibility of extending data-driven computing to more complex multiphysics problems.
