• A novel electrochemical sensor was developed based on Mo3C2 Mxene/CB nanocomposite. • The Mo3C2 Mxene/CB-modified electrode exhibited exceptional electrocatalytic activity for nitrite detection. • The sensor demonstrated high sensitivity, stability, and reproducibility with a low detection limit of 0.4 μM. • Successful application in detecting nitrite in real environmental water samples (tap, rain, and river water).
