This letter presents a high-performance, low-cost, and miniaturised Square Patch Power Divider (SPPD) with a defected ground plane, specifically designed for broadband applications. The innovative design integrates square ring-shaped slots in both the signal and ground planes of the square power divider, effectively extending multiple surface current paths to accommodate longer wavelengths. This approach not only achieves significant miniaturisation but also enhances bandwidth, ensuring superior performance. Additionally, the slots reduce the radiative characteristics of the patch, thereby minimizing insertion loss and improving overall device efficiency. A systematic design methodology is introduced, supported by a detailed parametric study for performance optimisation. The proposed SPPD demonstrates a remarkable 35% reduction in size (Patch area/lambda(2)) and a 30% improvement in fractional bandwidth compared to similar recent reported works. Furthermore, the device maintains minimal insertion loss and excellent port isolation, making it an ideal solution for modern wireless communication systems that demand compact, high-performance components.
