• We propose an adaptive residual statistical method to eliminate outliers, enabling high-spatial-resolution long-distance strain identification in the OFDR system. • A two-dimensional data matrix can be created and processed by reorganizing wavelength shift data along the fiber in the OFDR system. • The spatial resolution of 1.5 mm with a wavelength sweeping range of 20 nm over a 52-meter test fiber is achieved.
