Spatial computing integrates technologies to enable intuitive, embodied interaction among humans, physical spaces, and digital systems. By placing human agency at its core, it transcends the limitations of traditional interfaces. To systematically navigate this emerging field, this review revisits the original definition of spatial computing, builds on its conceptual foundation, and synthesizes existing research into five interconnected dimensions: enabling technological architectures, multimodal interaction devices, embodied interaction techniques, LLM-enhanced context awareness, and diverse application domains. This framework illuminates how the integration of human perception, embodied interaction and context awareness enables human-centered spatial experiences. This review concludes by proposing a unified set of human-centered design principles for spatial computing and identifying key challenges and future directions in the field. These contributions point the way toward interactive systems that are more intuitive, accessible, and socially responsible.
