• Hydraulic disturbance drove MoS2/PAA piezocatalytic ATZ degradation. • MoS2/PAA outperformed PAA, MoS2/H2O2, and MoS2/PMS systems. • Hydraulic stimulation activated PAA via direct electron transfer. • 1O2 dominated ATZ degradation, with •OH and R-O• also contributing. • The system showed low Mo leaching and reduced ecotoxicity.
