• A novel feature extraction method is provided for load region identification. • The proposed region classifier has high accuracy and strong migration adaptability. • The accuracy of load reconstruction is improved by the proposed dynamic sensor filter strategy. • The stability of the proposed load identification method is investigated and demonstrated.
