Abstract

• The study models oil flow through various porous materials with focusing on nonlinear flow dynamics using COMSOL-Multiphysics. • It addresses the inadequacies of conventional models by using the Forchheimer equation to suitably represent non-Darcian flow behavior. • Findings reveal that a transition to turbulent flow happens at input velocities greater than 1 m/s, where friction factors sharply increase. • The study shows that, for different porous media, flow velocity, friction factor, and pressure drop, are well correlated. • The study's conclusions are vital for enhancing the management of resources in petroleum engineering and strategies for refining in extracting oil process.
