• Responses of NOx sensors to NO, NO2, and NH3 were presented. • Transformations of NO, NO2, NH3, and N2O by NOx sensor catalysts in 300–800 ℃ have been analyzed. • PEMS tests and WHTC engine tests for vehicles using various types of fuels were done. • Cross-sensitivities to NH3 of NOx sensors were quantitively analyzed. • For aged TWCs, the affections of NH3 to NOx sensors can be obvious.
