• We examined parent and early childhood psychopathology as predictors of body dissatisfaction and ED symptoms. • Maternal anxiety and depression predicted youth body dissatisfaction at age 12. • Maternal and paternal depression predicted youth body dissatisfaction at age 15. • Child ODD moderated relationships between parent psychopathology and adolescent ED symptoms. • Body dissatisfaction at age 12 mediated relationships between parent psychopathology and adolescent ED symptoms.
