• Salinity stress in concentrated leachate (CL) likely inhibits methanogenesis. • High-organic waste showed greater tolerance to CL-induced methanogenesis inhibition. • Gaseous NH3 and H2S emissions were amplified, especially in post-methanogenic phase. • Most pollutants (COD/BOD5, NH4+-N, TN) were reduced vs. raw leachate, except salts. • NH3/H2S rise, CH4 drop, and salt build-up make CL recirculation unsustainable.
