• An FCC MCA with fine grains, annealing twins, retained dislocations and L12 nanoprecipitates was developed. • The alloy achieved a YS of 1550 MPa, a UTS of 1826 MPa and a total elongation of 13.7%. • Sequentially activated deformation mechanisms sustained continuous strain hardening and tensile ductility. • Fine grains and L12 precipitates contributed 59.3% of theoretical YS, twins and dislocations contributed 28.6%.
